We are betting that Mr. President Yoweri has never heard of the other President- Wycliff Jean or his song ‘ sweetest girl dollar bill” about the new age dilemma of serving no one but yourself- no matter the cost. The new generation of Ugandans would also care less for Mbilia Bell. But still it presents an interesting paradigm. How does a generation listening to “dollar bill” fit in the politics of corruption that has been cited as the most enduring criticism of Musevenism? If the country is going to industrialise and modernise – how can it do so when young people are head bopping to the funk of ” cash rules everything around me” in dollar bills? And if we feel so strongly that some hope for the common good can emerge from the “individual merit” how are we to wean individuals into making a difference in a cut throat world where the ” some live for the [dollar bill], kill for the bill, steal the bill” because they have to pay their bills?
Aniakumanyi? On that note one of my favorite songs in the last year are Ugandan sensations Sweet Kid & Bebe Cool in their song Kibakibi ( Hatari Sana)
